What is an AI construction cloud?

An AI construction cloud keeps a project's design and construction records online and uses AI to do part of the work on them. Here is what that means for infrastructure teams, and what to ask before you choose one.

What the term covers

A construction cloud is an online platform where a project team keeps its schedule, daily progress, inspections, quantities and documents. Everyone works from the same records, in place of spreadsheets passed around by email.

An AI construction cloud adds software that does part of the work on those records. On the design side, it can generate a structure from engineering rules. On the site, it can answer questions from project data. People still set the rules and approve the results.

Why infrastructure needs its own

Infrastructure is long and repetitive. A metro viaduct repeats the same piers, pier caps and girders for kilometres. A road runs by chainage, and its works are located by stretch and structure. A bridge is built element by element.

Tools made for buildings often assume floors, rooms and a full 3D model of the building. On an infrastructure site, work is located by pier, span or chainage, and value is tracked against lines in the bill of quantities (BOQ). Software for this work should use the same terms the planner and the quantity surveyor already use.

Design and construction

LivSYT has two modules, and a team can use either one or both.

•

Generative Design is AI generative design. It generates metro viaducts, roads, bridges and data centres from your engineering rules. It analyses each design round in finite element and structural analysis tools through built-in integrations, and draws the general arrangements, sections and a priced BOQ from the same model.

•

Construction Management is AI construction management. It runs the schedule, daily progress, inspections, BOQ, drawings and documents on site. LivSYT AI answers questions from the project's records.

Both modules use the same terms for structures and BOQ lines, and each works on its own.

What the AI does, and what people decide

In design, engineers set the rules, review the analysis and approve the design. The software takes the repetitive work: placing every part, checking it against the standards, and redrawing after a change.

On site, an engineer approves progress before it counts.

Questions to ask before you choose

1.

Which analysis software does it work with? Ask whether results come back into the design, or whether someone re-enters them.

2.

How is a result checked before it counts? Ask to see the evidence behind a progress number, and who approved it.

3.

Does it use your terms? Zones should carry the names your planner uses, such as Pier P3 or Span P1–P2.

4.

Can your IT team review it? Ask about roles, the audit trail and where it runs. Our security page answers these for Construction Management.
